This is a set of two small paintings.
The title comes from an ancient Central American ceremony, where people in brightly colored costumes climb to the top of very tall poles. With ropes firmly tied to their ankles and the top of the poles, they leap off and effectively do an aerial ballet, with up to four people spinning around the pole at once.
It is dramatic and beautiful.
Each of these paintings measures 2×5 inches, and is done with oil on copper. They are presented in simple black frames, the outer dimensions of which are 5×8 inches.
