Red Plum II

"Red Plum II" Oil on copper, 5x5 inches, 2013 (Sold)
“Red Plum II”
Oil on copper, 5×5 inches, 2013 (Sold)
This painting was done on a sheet of prepared copper.

Though it might sound like an unusual surface to paint on, it’s actually wonderful to use, and has a long history.

Some of the best-preserved paintings I’ve seen were done on copper, with examples nearly 400 years old looking as fresh as when they left the artist’s studio.

Here, the edges were unpainted to leave the bare metal exposed.
